How to Build a Mounting Block

By roro - Posted on 04 January 2008

Well, my wife complained that there is no mounting block up at the arena, and how about building one. So after taking a good look at an existing one my son Michael and I went to work.

First, we went to Lowe's and bought two pine 2x8x10 (almost 2 inch thick, almost 8 inch wide, and 10 feet long), the stuff is pretty cheap and durable, we already had some 2x4 leftovers. Then we had to cut it up. We needed three steps 2 feet long. Next we had to cut the sides, it needs two of 9", two of 18", and two of 27", except that you probably do not have a 27" left ...

As you can see, we used the 2x4 to screw or nail the sides together. Now we can screw the steps on (screws work better than nails). Make them flush with the front, leave some space in the back.

Now add some scrap wood to the back (or if you have a nice square piece use it to keep the mounting block square) and to the front.

We made it weather proof with some sealant and then the girls had to test it ....
